About

The Mountain Biking club was created for the purpose of introducing students to mountain biking and incoming mountain bikers to the trails around Hanover as well as in the rest of New Hampshire and Vermont.

The Mountain Biking Club (or 'MBC') was restarted during Spring 08 by Tom Collier, '11, after a hiatus of several years. It was started because there was a community of riders who wanted a way to get in touch with each other about rides, questions, and gear. Also, now that we're an official club, we have the opportunity to get funding from the DOC to lead trips to local riding areas.

Trips

The club frequently takes out local beginner rides, using bikes from DOR and taking new riders to Boston Lot or Oak Hill. Oak Hill has traditionally been closed to biking, but as of this season the area is open to biking, and the club is working on improving and marking the single track.

Additionally, the club organizes rides to more advanced areas nearby, such as Kingdom Trails or Highlands.

Riding Around Hanover

Oak Hill
The location of Dartmouth's Nordic Skiing Trails. Trails here range from the wide ski trails (great for beginners) to tight and twisty singletracks that will keep anyone entertained.
Boston Lot
These trails are located up by DHMC and are quite technical as well as physically challenging. They provide a slower paced, more technically-challenging ride than Oak Hill.
Blue Ribbon
This ride is located in Norwich, VT and starts at the Gile Mountain Parking lot. It is one of the longest rides in the area as well as one of the most fun. There is a fire tower at the top of the climb which provides a great view of Hanover and the surrounding area.

Trailwork

The Mountain Biking Club helps to maintain trails around Hanover by organizing trailwork days. Locations may include the trails at Oak Hill as well as around Boston Lot Lake.

Meetings

Weekly beginner and advanced rides will be taking place most weeks that the trails are dry enough.
